Common Carrier

A common carrier is a transportation company or individual that offers its services to the public for the movement of goods or passengers under regulated rates and conditions. Examples include trucking companies, railroads, airlines, and ocean carriers. Common carriers are legally obligated to serve customers without discrimination, provided the goods are lawful and properly packaged. They are generally liable for loss or damage to cargo, subject to specific limitations and defenses defined by law or contract. Their operations are regulated by transportation authorities and international conventions.
