General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)

A legal agreement between many countries which promoted international trade by minimizing trade barriers, e.g. tariffs and quotas. It was succeeded by the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, with the original GATT text remaining part of the WTO framework.
