Also known as Multimodal. A method of moving goods in the same load unit using more than one type of transportation (air, rail, sea, truck, etc.). An intermodal container is used in different modes of transport without having to unload and reload the goods at each point where the mode of transport changes. In international trade, the intermodal container is usually synonymous with the container.
