Also called commodity classification. It is a classification system that allocates specific numeric or alphanumeric codes to particular product categories. These are the Harmonized System (HS), Schedule B and the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs), and United States Munitions List (USML) categories. They help compile trade statistics and are used by the country of import for assessing duties and taxes.
