CPT (Carriage Paid To) is an Incoterm defined by the International Chamber of Commerce under International Chamber of Commerce rules. Under CPT, the seller arranges and pays for transportation to a named destination, but risk transfers to the buyer once the goods are handed over to the first carrier. The seller is responsible for export clearance, while the buyer handles import formalities and duties. CPT can be used for any mode of transport, including multimodal shipments, and is commonly applied in containerized freight transactions.
