Customs Declaration

A Customs Declaration is the formal document that travels with your cargo and tells the receiving country’s customs authority exactly what is crossing their border. It covers the nature of the goods, their declared value, the consignee, and the final destination. It is the cargo’s official introduction to a foreign government.

For heavy equipment shipments, accuracy here is non-negotiable. Declaring a 40-ton mining excavator as “construction machinery” without specifics invites scrutiny. Customs authorities cross-reference the declaration against the commercial invoice, packing list, and Bill of Lading. If the numbers or descriptions don’t align across all three, your machine gets held while inspectors ask questions you don’t want to answer from overseas.

The declaration also triggers the duty assessment process. Undervalue the equipment — even accidentally — and you risk penalties, seizure, or being flagged for future audits on every subsequent shipment.
