Home Services Air Freight

Shipping by air is popular for goods that need to reach their destination as quickly as possible. While the quantities and vehicles utilized differ from sea shipping, air freight is suitable for transporting all types of cargo, from small packages to large containers.

What types of cargo are transported by Air?

Air freight is divided into two categories:

  • General. Theย general category includes goods safely packed and shipped by air without requiring special handling or additional precautions.
  • Special. Theย special category is further subdivided into four groups: temperature-controlled cargo, hazardous goods, heavyweight and over-dimensional freight, and charter services.

Temperature Controlled

Temperature-controlled air cargo is required to ship items that must be kept at a particular temperature.

Hazardous Goods

Hazardous goods include any items classified as hazardous under the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).

Charter services

We charter an aircraft solely for your cargo whenever necessary.

Heavyweight and over-dimensional freight

We specialize in handling freight that exceeds the usual standards for weight or size.

Advantages of Air cargo shippingโ€‹

Speed

It is the fastest cargo shipping method, with delivery times measured in days instead of weeks.

Reach

Allows you to deliver your cargo to any location that has airport and customs clearance facilities.

Security

Safety standards are stricter and subject to more control than ground or sea shipping.

What canโ€™t be transported with air freight?

There are quite a few things that canโ€™t be transferred with air freight due to safety and security regulations. Hereโ€™s a breakdown of the main categories.

Restricted items

  • Explosives
    This includes fireworks, ammunition, firearms, detonating fuses, and anything that could pose a risk of explosion. ;
  • Flammable materials
    Such as flammable liquids, solids, and gases;
  • Toxic and infectious substances
    Among them are poisonous materials, medical waste, bacteria, viruses, and anything that can be harmful to human or animal health;
  • Corrosive materials
    Such as acids, alkalis, and other substances that could damage and destroy other cargo or the aircraft;
  • Compressed gases
    This includes oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, and aerosol cans, which could pressurize and rupture at high altitudes;
  • Magnetized materials
    Strong magnets can interfere with aircraft navigation systems.

While air freight may not be suitable for certain hazardous items, safe transportation alternatives exist. This includes everyday items like fireworks, compressed gas cylinders, lighters, and aerosol cans, which retailers and consumers need for various purposes. Ground transportation, with its specific regulations and safety protocols, allows for the responsible movement of these materials.
